CELEBRITY DESIGNER CHRIS MADDEN HELPS CREATE HAVENS FOR NEEDY FAMILIES O N THE GULF COAST

Celebrity designer Chris Madden is the face and force behind the multi-million dollar home furnishings empire that spans publishing, television, design and licensing. In celebration of the 30 year anniversary of her company, Chris Madden, Inc., Chris initiated "Project Katrina" in which she galvanized her team and began the process of donating the contents of her warehouse to families who lost their homes and all of their belongings in September 2005 to Hurricane Katrina. Chris Madden's mantra of "turning home into haven" has influenced all of her home furnishings designs, her 16 books, her television show on HGTV, "Interiors by Design" and her weekly decorating column with Scripps News Service.

In May 2004 the Chris Madden for JCPenney Home Collection was launched in stores, catalog and internet and was the company's largest home brand launch in the company's 102 year history. The Collection includes furnishings for every room of the house from dining tables, to window coverings to dinnerware. Chris will help these families in Pass Christian by providing them complete living rooms or bedrooms or in the case with the home built by Architecture for Humanity, donating an entire house full of furniture for the Biloxi Model Home Program. The first home in the program will be completed in mid-May. With the help of ABF trucking, Chris has undertaken the expense of having the contents of her Vermont warehouse shipped to Mississippi.

"This is exactly what I envisioned doing with the samples I have been receiving from JCPenney of all of my designs and I am thrilled to be able to do my part to help these families try to furnish their homes, personalize their spaces and help recreate their family histories, "explains Chris Madden. "Throughout my 30 years of running my own company, I have always made time to give back along the way. It is my belief that everyone deserves a home. I want to be able to make this happen for those less fortunate because everyone needs a welcoming and safe place to return to each day— a place they can call their haven."
